Application Guidelines for Home-Schooled Students

We realize that home-schooled students may find it difficult to complete the Lakeside School application for admission according to our guidelines. The School Records Form and the two Teacher Evaluation Forms that are required may pose some obstacles in the application process for home-schooled students. If this is the case, the following are alternative ways of meeting our application requirements. If at any point the student has been in a formal school setting we would ask that those school records accompany the student’s application if at all possible. While it may not be possible for the student to submit everything that we ask for, it is in the student’s best interest to send us as much information as possible regarding his/her academic background and capabilities.

Curriculum: As an alternative to the School Records Form we ask that a detailed outline of the student’s home-school curriculum be submitted. The outline should include the following:
a. The exact subject areas studied
b. The texts that are used
c. The amount of time the student spends on each discipline

Graded Work: The student must submit one example of graded work. Examples of work could include a piece of writing such as an essay or a substantive project. The graded work should provide a good representation of the student’s academic potential. The directions or guidelines used in the assignment should also be submitted.

Teacher Evaluation Forms: One of the Teacher Evaluation Forms should come from some sort of instructor the student has had such as an art teacher, music teacher or tutor. The second Teacher Evaluation Form may come from a parent who can evaluate the student’s academic abilities and potential.

If at any point you have any questions about these guidelines, please do not hesitate in contacting the Admissions and Finandial Aid Office at 206-368-3605.
