• Takes away from group experience

• Have to buy tickets, make deposits, etc.

Local Service Learning

• Students choose an issue to study
• Learn about it and teach others in group
• Choose local organization related to issue
• Deepen learning while on trip
• Commit to project in summer and fall after return
• Meaningful work and reflection leading to activism
