Lakeside Parents and Guardians Association All-School News

April 21, 2017

Hope you had a wonderful spring break!

I hope you and your students had some time to relax together over spring break. With the sun finally starting to peek through the showers, it feels like we are entering the home stretch of the school year. The PGA is abuzz with activities as we gear up for next Friday's spring tailgate, end of year parties in the Middle School, the 8th-grade celebration, senior prom, and the senior parent and guardian dinner.

On May 2, we will hold the PGA annual meeting where we will welcome the incoming PGA volunteers for the 2017-18 school year, and I will "pass the gavel" to next year's PGA President, Juiling Edmonds. I am leaving my role as PGA president in good hands with Juiling, who is the parent of both a Middle and an Upper school student, and has sat on the PGA executive committee for the past two years. It has been a pleasure to meet and work with so many wonderful parents and guardians this year. I still have two students at Lakeside, so I look forward to getting caught up with fellow parents and guardians at grade-level coffees and while timing at swim meets next fall.

Friday, April 28, 5 p.m., US quad

The spring tailgate is only a few days away! Venture outside and enjoy free food and fun for all ages! All Lakeside Upper and Middle school students, parents, guardians, faculty, and staff are welcome and encouraged to attend. The grills and volunteers will be fired up and ready to serve burgers, hot dogs, and snacks starting at 5 p.m., just before the kick off of the varsity boys soccer game against O'Dea. A food truck will also be on campus with food available for purchase. Wear your gold lion pride t-shirts, maroon and gold, or buy some new spirit wear. The logowear team will be on hand, too! And, while supplies last, we'll be handing out free give-away items that celebrate Lakeside pride. As with all big events, we will need a few volunteers for set-up, serving, and clean-up. Invite a friend to sign-up with you, and share the shift! Please click here to sign-up today. Questions? Email tailgate committee chair, Neal Black.

Announcing proposed 2017-18 PGA executive team

The PGA nominations committee has been hard at work inviting volunteers to serve in the 2017-18 school year. We are lucky to have a generous and dedicated parent and guardian community and are happy to announce next year's proposed PGA executive team: Juling Edmonds, president; Julia Cho, president-elect; Teri Franklin, US vice president; Katie Simmons, MS vice president; Joanna Black, communications vice president; Julie Kelly, treasurer; Julie Weed, secretary; David de la Fuente, equity and inclusion vice president; Rosalie Gann, volunteer engagement vice president. The nominating committee was able to select from a talented, dedicated, and diversified pool of volunteers. Each nomination was deliberated with thoughtful, thorough, and respectful discussion.
