 | GREETINGS FROM COLLEGE COUNSELING by Charlene Aguilar, Director of College Counseling
Each year our alumni return to campus to share anecdotes, opinions, and observations about the unique ways their Lakeside education equipped them to meet the rigors and decisions they encounter in their college and university experiences. We are thrilled that our students recognize, families appreciate, and campus educators understand that the best preparation for college is to take advantage of the challenges and opportunities at Lakeside—within and beyond the classroom. Through our curriculum and given our school’s mission, we encourage our students to develop skills, pursue interests, discover passions, and commit to something larger than themselves. It is our fervent hope that by providing diverse forums that allow for discovery, our students reflect intellectual and social engagement with the world, resilience, and life perspective. We are confident that young people here strive and learn as they strike a balance between all these things and explore what they hope to accomplish on their life’s journey.
As Lakeside Lions begin to navigate the college process, we know they pace themselves according to what feels right. For example, while one student may be ready to delve into the college process at some point during the fall of his or her junior year, another may begin to explore information more deeply in the spring of junior year. We are confident that each student is a responsible and talented citizen, on campus and beyond. We know our students will manage the college process with the same ethical nature, thoughtfulness, independence, and equanimity as they manage everything else—from academic inquiry to service in both our local and global community to immersion in extracurricular activities.
We are here to offer support and expertise along the way!
