Our camping trip is a favorite for students. We often camp and hike in the North Cascades. We reduce the numbers of students gathered at any one hiking and camping site by taking two or three small groups of students (ten participants to each small group) out by themselves. This seems to provide a better opportunity for students to appreciate the outdoors and it reduces the impacts on the environment as well.  The camping trip really cements the bond which develops in the summer. We try to make sure each and every student participates in this activity.
