PE 5
Fifth graders develop skills to enhance eye-hand coordination, eye-foot coordination
and basic movement development including running, jumping, catching and throwing.
The program incorporates lead-up games prior to introduction to sport activities
and includes ultimate frisbee, soccer, volleyball, low-organized games, tumbling,
racket sports and kickball. Fifth graders fitness test three times during the
year and utilize the Presidential Challenge. Test items include sit-ups, shuttle
run, sit and reach, mile run, flexed arm hang, and 50 yard dash. Ribbons and
patches are awarded for reaching the 50th percentile or higher.
PE 6
Sixth graders incorporate the skills acquired in fifth grade and continue to
expand their knowledge of designated team sports. The class provides opportunities
for students to develop leadership, cooperation, honesty, and self control.
Activities include: ultimate frisbee, soccer, fitness games, flag football,
basketball, volleyball, floor hockey and low organized games. Sixth graders
fitness test three times during the year and utilize the Presidential Challenge.
Standing long jump, pull-ups, and push-ups are added to the fifth grade test
battery. Ribbons and patches are awarded for reaching the 50th percentile or
higher.
PE 7 
Seventh graders are introduced to activities in three to four week units. Rules
and skills are stressed at this level. Physical confidence is an important goal
as is the development of conditioning, flexibility, strength, and total fitness.
Students are also introduced to basic first aid. Activity units include: soccer,
flag football, basketball, racket sports, tumbling, taebo, softball, and low
organized games. Seventh graders fitness test three times during the year and
utilize the Presidential Challenge.
PE 8
Eighth graders demonstrate advanced knowledge and skill within the activities.
Activity units are: fall running, fitness test preparation, flag football, pickleball,
basketball, soccer, weight room, low organized games, dance, volleyball, rope
skipping, speed ball, badminton, spring running and softball. Equal emphasis
is placed on developing each student’s personal fitness. Towards this
end, students participate in activities 3 times a week and specific conditioning
work 2 times a week.
Eighth graders fitness test three times during the year and utilize the Lakeside Fitness Test. This is a 10 item test battery that includes: sit ups, standing long jump, pull ups, bar dips, 800 meter run, 1600 meter run, 200 yard shuttle run, 2 arm hang, flexed arm hang, and agility run. Students are awarded t-shirts for achieving designated standards.

Evaluation
All students (grades 5-8) are evaluated daily based upon the following criteria:
participation, attitude, dress and attendance. Fifth and sixth grade students
receive comments. Seventh and eighth grade students receive comments and a letter
grade. Comments and grades are written utilizing the following guidelines:
Participation
• Participation to the best of one's ability.
• Increased knowledge and understanding of lifetime activities and fitness.
• Improvement through daily effort.
Attitude
• Demonstrates good sportsmanship.
• Shows respect for others.
• Listens to others.
• Includes all team members.
• Cooperates with classmates and teacher.
Dress
• Appropriate athletic shoes.
• T-Shirt.
• Shorts.
• Socks.
• Sweats.
• All clothing labeled.
Attendance
• Excused absence: 1 week to make up absence by doing written or physical
work.
• Unexcused absence: loss of points in all categories, work cannot be
made up.
• Tardiness: cannot be made up.
• Injuries resulting in absence beyond three days require a doctor’s
note to be re-admitted to class.
