The Backbone of the Parents Association
The Parents Association Nominations Committee is responsible for finding willing volunteers to fill key leadership positions each year. Members of the Executive Committee and
each of the Chairs of our standing committees are recruited as the result of the nominations process.
The membership in the Nominations Committee is comprised of: Nominations Chair; current PA President; 3 US parents or guardians; and 3 MS parents or guardians. No more than two
members of the Executive Committee may serve on the Nominations Committee.
An exciting part of the process each year is discovering new volunteers who haven't previously had the chance to hold a leadership position in the Parents Association. The inclusion
every year of new faces and ideas helps to keep the Parents Association a growing, learning organization.
Potential volunteers for Parents Association Board positions come to the attention of the Nominations Committee in a variety of ways. First, the Committee sends each family a
questionnaire asking for recommendations (including self-nominating for a position). If volunteers aren't identified for specific positions, the Nominations Committee will use traditional
networking techniques within the parent community to find possible volunteers to recruit.
Sometimes there are several possibilities for one position while another position remains without potential leaders. It's the big job of the Nominations
Committee to fill all the available positions with the best candidate.
Attention is paid to a number of factors: mix of US and MS parents; mix of boy parents and girl parents; mix of working and nonworking parents; traditional diversity
areas (gender, ethnic, socioeconomic, etc.)
