Getting To Know Each Other
The Parent Potluck program began seven years ago at the suggestion of Head of School, Bernie Noe. The potlucks are informal dinners or brunches held in families' homes to encourage inclusiveness and to broaden and strengthen the already cohesive sense of community at Lakeside. Two weekends a year are designated for these fun social events.
Small groups of parents or guardians from the same grade are randomly assigned to various volunteer hosts' homes by the potluck representative for each class. Everyone brings something to eat or drink, as coordinated by the host, so that all are contributing to the community meal.
The program is designed so that every family can host a potluck if they desire. All that is needed is a warm, inviting atmosphere. These meals can be buffet style or sit down; families do not need a large dining space in order to host. The program has been very successful, as parents find it is a wonderful way to meet fellow parents they had not previously known.
