1. Mini Composition Studies

3 b/w contour drawing thumbnails: edit what you see & design variety.

**Can also consider these as foundation for possible future work if wanted.

(Assessment- design, exciting composition vs. photo-real focus on one object)

***** 9/5-9/14. 1 ½ weeks (Senior Retreat 9/10)

2.The Ugly/Beauty & Exciting/Perfect Painting- Focus- process & getting the color juices flowing.

***** (1 painting per day) 9/17-9/19 ** DP 4 Can choose figure drawing instead.

3. Rotating group shared painting- open topic. About 15-20 minutes each. Focus process & expanding insights.

(Assessment- record observations pro & con re: 3& 4.)

***** 9/21-9/24 ** DP 4 Can choose figure drawing instead.

4. Two-three person group “still life springboard” & solo paintings:

Set up: Use 1-3 boxes & limited props. Use part of still life/crop, any eye level. Use as springboard for painting. Doe not have to be photo-real! Can exaggerate angles, curves, enlarge or reduce parts.
Painting: Focus on color harmony and style.

A. High Key Impressionism.

B.Complimentary Expressionism. Can also neutralize.

*Pick one of these to focus more on negative space & pick one to focus more on interaction of positive & negative: vary edges/ambiguity, vary brushwork. (Both of these can be flat vs. 3-D style.)

C. Dramatic value/Baroque form Depth via most contrast & brightest color.

***** 9/26-10/3 1 week: Intro set up, draw.

***** 2 weeks per painting= 6 weeks. 10/5- 11/16. Fall Semester mid-point is 11/2.

DRAW/PAINT III: 2007-2008

5. “2 D/3 D”- Paint as Paint & Paint as Illusion

(Assessment- effective space relative to 2 or 3/d, process/exploration)

*****11/19-1/11. 5 weeks. Fall Semester ends 1/18

6. “Giving Visual Form to Human Experience” Choose: quote, “ritual,” opposition or duality as springboard. Media, style, size is open.

*****Length of project open. Approximately 3 weeks minimum. 1/23-?

7. Remainder of year free choice. Due by 5/23 for Arts Fest.

5. Remainder of year free choice . 11/20- 5/23 Should have a minimum of 1 major project per semester.
