PAINTING 2-4

1.The Ugly Painting & the Beautiful/Perfect Painting- Focus- process & getting the color juices flowing. Record observations pro/con

2.Rotating Group Painting- Focus- process & expanding insights. Record observations pro & con.)

***** 9/10 – 9/12. 2 days. Senior Retreat 9/10

3. Mini Composition Studies 2-3 B/W @ 3x5 or 5x7. Focus- planning for a well designed painting.

*Painting 2 will use favorite for next project. Painting 3-4 may use one as springboard for later work.

(Assessment- design, exciting composition vs. photo/real focus)

PAINTING 2

4. Color Harmony Thumbnails with Varied Focus. Use favorite B/W

• Flat & Graphic. Primaries, secondaries, tints & shades. Acrylic. 3x5 or 5x 7. (Assessment harmony/variety & color.) *** Two weeks. 9/24-10/5.
• Form & Depth. Analogous or Complimentary color. Oil. 5x7 or 8x10. (Assessment color and depth)

***3 weeks. 10/8-10/26 (No school 10/12)

• Underpainting/Layering & Brushwork. Open color choice. Acrylic 5x7 or 8x10. (Assessment harmony/variety & color.)

*** 3 weeks. 10/29-11/16 Fall Semester mid-point 11/2

PAINTING 3-4

4. Color Harmony “Paint as Paint & Paint as Illusion”. (May use favorite B/W)

Factor positive, negative, random, intentional, juxtaposition.

• Do 2 “small” paintings or 2 mini thumbnail color studies & one larger (11x14 or 16x20) Use different color harmony on each. (Assessment relates to goal)

*** 9/24- 11/16. 8 weeks. If finish early- free choice.

PAINTING 2-4: 2007-2008

5. Explorations & manipulating acrylics: Focus on exploring additional techniques/deepening- not creating finished/polished paintings.

• Non-Objective Abstraction : 4 approaches

***11/16- 11/28. 1-2 day each= 2 weeks

• Abstracted Reality Do 1-2 painting/s.

     ***11/30- 12/14= 2 weeks

6. Surrealism & Pop Art: ideas & artists

     ***12/17-12/21= 1 week.

PAINTING 2:

7. Content, Form & Technique: Content options- memory, dream, symbolic still life item/s or places. Form/style, technique & media- open.

 (ASSESSMENT for ALL REMAINING WORK Painting 2-4 reflects how well piece meets goals set by artist/artist’s intent & includes effective use of art principles important to piece, skill growth, creative/personal involvement. See posted rubric.)
