After falling to Lake Sammamish on Tuesday (May 15) by a 14-8 clip to miss out on the WLSA State Championship game for the first time in eight years, the Lakeside girls varsity lacrosse team ended its spring slate on Saturday (May 19) with a 12-5 WSLA Consolation victory over Mercer Island (MI).

Rebecca L. ’13 paced the Lions (14-3-0) with four goals, Sammy M. ’13 had three, Kaylee B. ’13 added two, and Alena P. ’12, Sarah D. ’12, and Natalie F. ’13 all registered one goal apiece.

After falling behind 2-1 in the opening minutes of the first half, Lakeside outmatched the Islanders (12-4-1) 5-1 to close out the frame and take a 6-3 advantage into the halftime break.

The Lions’ momentum on the offensive side of the ball didn’t miss a beat to start the second half – Lakeside ran off five unanswered winners to stretch its lead to six (11-3) with just over 15 minutes to play.

Madison B. led the Islanders in scoring with two goals on the day; Tyler S., Elena S., and Saffron S. added one apiece as MI narrowed the final gap with two late goals but couldn’t overcome the eventual seven-goal difference.

Lakeside netminder Amerra S. ‘14 picked up the win with 16 saves on 21 Islander shots.

Lakeside seniors Makayla D., Emily K., Sarah D., and Alena P. all put a lid on their lacrosse careers with the conclusion of Saturday’s WSLA consolation action.
