Middle School

Middle School

Lakeside Athletics at the Middle School encourages students to have fun and try new sports while developing their athletic skills and knowledge of sports in a supportive environment.

Ninety percent of Lakeside Middle School students participate in at least one sport, and most sports at the Middle School are no cut. With the exception of sculling (rowing), which has limited spaces in boats, any student who wants to participate on a team is able to do so. Whatever level of experience a student has, there is a place for them in the program.

Fall sports include coed sculling (rowing), coed cross country, girls soccer, and boys soccer; winter sports include girls basketball and boys basketball; spring sports include girls lacrosse, boys lacrosse, coed track and field, and girls volleyball. Most Middle School teams participate in the Catholic Youth Organization (CYO) League.

Middle School athletics are directly overseen by the assistant director of athletics, who is based at the Middle School. Program heads direct each sport, helping create connections between our newest players and our varsity athletes, and ensuring excellent coaching at every level.

Student Voices

I have picked up an overall love for sports throughout my first year of high school. The connections you make with your teammates, coaches, and friends are the things you remember. – Hannah D. '22

Upper School

Upper School

There are many ways to engage with Lakeside Athletics at the Upper School – from competing at the state championship level, to trying out a new sport, to cheering on friends from the sidelines.

Lakeside Athletics has 23 varsity teams, most of which have sub-varsity counterparts. Seventy-five percent of Upper School students play at least one sport each year, and many choose to play two or three. While Lakeside is a small school, we choose to “play big” when it comes to athletics, competing in Washington’s 3A Metro League against some of the largest schools in the region.

Fall sports are coed cross-country, coed football, coed golf, girls soccer, girls swimming and diving, and girls volleyball; winter sports are girls basketball, boys basketball, boys swimming and diving, and coed wrestling; and spring sports are boys baseball, girls lacrosse, boys lacrosse, boys soccer, coed tennis, and coed track and field. Boys and girls crew is offered in the fall and spring seasons. At least one Upper School team each season is no cut, meaning any student who wants to be part of a team has that chance. Whatever level of experience a student has, there is a place for them in the program.

Students are supported by outstanding coaches and athletics staff, including athletic trainers and strength and conditioning coaches. Program heads direct 17 of the programs, helping create connections between our newest players and our varsity athletes, and ensuring excellent coaching at every level. All students can take advantage of the school’s athletics facilities, including the recently completed complex, The Paul G. Allen Athletics Center.
