Program Overview

Lakeside's mission seeks to foster a sensitive consideration for others and to inspire in students a lifelong commitment to positive engagement in the broader human community. We believe that service springs from a caring attitude toward the needs of others and that the experience of serving fosters this compassion. We aim to promote the idea that no task, however mundane, is undignified; that we all have much to learn from each other; and that the common good is the responsibility of all. We also believe that effective global citizenship starts at the local level with meaningful relationships with community partners and which touch on universally complex issues such as poverty, injustice, and indifference. Students and communities gain exponentially from their work together toward a common goal of raising awareness and fostering empathy.
