COURSE REQUIREMENTS  - ACTING    (Applies to CLASS Activities and PLAY Rehearsals)

1.  BE SUPPORTIVE!  Be supportive of other members of the group.  Drama is Collaborative.

2.  BE THERE!  (3 unexcused absences may be grounds for lowering the grade one letter)

  & BE ON TIME!  ( 3 tardies constitute one absence)

   If you need to make appointments for medical or other needs, please schedule them for your free periods later in the day   Anyone with a truly unavoidable conflict, you must notify your acting teacher at least one day in advance OR the absence will count as unexcused.

3.   OUTSIDE PREPARATION.  Outside preparation is extremely important & a key expectation.

4.   MEETING DEADLINES IS ESSENTIAL.  This includes completing preparation of written assignments, work with a script, the process of selecting material and memorization.  Particularly important is appearing at scheduled rehearsals on time, unless notice is given.

5.   PERFORMANCES, DISCUSSIONS, and PLAY REPORTS.  All drama students are
expected to see each of our Lakeside plays.  This supports the work of other students and
is necessary preparation for post-play discussions which are an important learning task.
In addition, all drama students must write reviews of three plays each year.  Two of these
play reports must be completed first semester.  At least one of the three must be a play
performance by a professional theatre group.  You may write up to two reports on school
productions.  If you are cast in a play, you will still be expected to wrtie a report each
comment period.  (Please consult the Play Report Form for instructions about the
format you should use.)

6.  IMPORTANT QUALITIES. Students-actors will be developing and assessed on the following:

 *Voice & Movement flexibility *Imaginative and Practical Choices
                        and control   in solving problems

7.  PLAY PRODUCTION DATES.  2007-8
 Play One:   November 15 & 16
 Play Two:  Musical - February 14, 15 & 16  
 Play Three:   March  20 & 21
 Play Four:  April 24 & 25   - Open Auditions

Drama Showcase: June 4
 Arts Festival:  May 28

ASSESSMENT IN Acting CLASS
 This course is designed to achieve goals in four major areas.
 1.   Ensemble building and collaboration on acting projects
 2.  Work on personal skills with emphasis on voice and movement awareness, control
       and development.
 3.  Development of audition and rehearsal skills.
 4.  Critical observation and writing skills.

ASSESSMENT IN THE ARTS IS BASED ON OBSERVATION OF THREE AREAS OF A STUDENT'S WORK

1.  Participation

       Including attendance, energy, ensemble support, and productive use of class time

2.   Skill Growth and Personal Development

         Demonstrated through specific projects in a variety of media

3.   Informed Reflection

           Including the development of a student's ability to know and apply recognized criteria to their own work and the

           work of their peers
