PLAY REPORT FORMAT

Each play report should be 2-3 pages,
preferably typed.

Each report should be a well-constructed,
well-organized essay with an interesting introduction and conclusion.
("For my play report I saw...." just WILL NOT DO!) Remember to use ESSAY
format, not topic heading format.

At least one of the three required reports
should be on a Lakeside production. At least one of the three required
reports should be on a professional production.You may turn in one extra
credit report during the second semester. Either the third or the extra
credit report may be on a Lakeside, professional, or other school production.

Use the play program as a convenient reference when
you write your report. Give the names of pertinent performers and production staff.

Each report should include the
following:
- BASIC REPORTING INFORMATION: Title
of production, theatre where it was presented, author (and, as necessary,
director, actors, designers) Don't just list these - incorporate them into the paragraphs.
- PLOT SUMMARY: Brief (brief, BRIEF!)
summary of the play's story (if it has one). This should not be more
than 100-125 words, absolute tops.
- PERFORMANCE: Specific, not generalized,
description of th work of one or two of the most noteworthy performers
(These need not be leading roles)
- PRODUCTION: Discussion of how
production choices (sets, costumes, sound,lighting, makeup, etc) contribute
to and/or detract from the effective of the production
- PERSONAL CONNECTIONS: Explanation
of what connections (personal life,experience or classroom application,
other classes, etc) you can make to the play, the performance, and the
overall impact of the theatre experience
- DUE DATES: Reports are due
no later than the first class meeting of the final week of the marking
period. Reports turned in later may be included in the next marking
period.
- Play Report One due Monday, October 22
- Play Report Two due Monday, January 14
- Play Report Three due either Monday, March 17 or Monday, May 12.
- DRAFTS: You may submit a draft version of your report for comments. Any draft must be submitted a week before the official due date, to allow time for review and revision.
