This is Microsoft's main page for Windows XP. Click on the Support tab and you have access to information about how to use Windows XP. There are step-by-step instructions/tutorials, FAQs, access to the Knowledge Base, newsgroups, and other tools.

Microsoft Office

Clicking on the above link will take you to Microsoft's homepage for Office. Following the Support link will take you to many resources including how-to articles, a Knowledge Base devoted to Office, and much else.

Internet Explorer

By clicking on the link above, you'll go to the homepage for Internet Explorer. How-to articles can be found by following the Using Internet Explorer link. Additional help can be found through Support.

Inspiration

The homepage for Inspiration software, this site has links to Professional Development, Tech Support, Newsletter, Visual Learning, and FAQs -- all of which provide help and support in using this application in the classroom.

Mediator

At Mediator's website, there is a page that has a couple tutorials that you can download. They can be used by students or teachers. In both you create a four-page website; in one your website will include animation. Click here to go to the tutorials page.

Windows Update

Microsoft puts out updates, patches, and new features to Windows. Visiting this site, scanning for and installing updates is an important habit that can help keep your computer's operating system running well.

Click here for Microsoft's Assistance Center which offers a wide array of tips, templates, clip art, downloads, updates, and much else for all the Office applications. In addition to links to help for each specific Office application, there are also columnists whose help articles are archived and often very useful.

A web site with a number of examples of possible uses of Inspiration from grade school through high school in a number of subject areas.

Mediator Classroom Workbook

We have multiple copies of this book which has step-by-step instructions for creating projects using Mediator. The workbook also comes with a CD which supplies the images and files needed for the tutorials.

Windows XP How-to Articles

Available at Microsoft's Windows homepage is a link to Using Windows XP. There you'll find a link to a series of how-to articles in areas such as Getting Started, Personalizing Your Computer, Work with Multimedia, and miuch more.

 

Office XP Tips & Tricks Archive

An online resource at Microsoft that has a series of tips in using all the components of Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, and Outlook.

Microsoft's Clip Art and Media Gallery

If you run low on ClipArt or multimedia to use with Office, Microsoft offers this site to help you out.

an online site and newsletter providing tips and much archived information on all the Office applications. You can also subscribe to weekly (free) e-mail newsletters that cover a variety of subjects centered around the suite of application in Office.

The University at Albany Libraries have a wonderful site with a great deal of online information and several tutorials covering a wide spectrum. What's more, they're up-to-date and presented quite effectively. Some examples include: A Basic Guide to the Internet, Conducting Research on the Internet, How to Choose a Search Engine, and much more. Click here to go to the main page with all the links.

Lee's Summit R7 School District (Missouri) offers a Technology Integration website that has tutorials covering using technology in the classroom. Included are links to Ideas and Examples, Tutorials, and Resources for Inspiration.

Finding Information on the Internet: A Tutorial -- an extremely well-organized and comprehensive site that covers a multitude of aspects and issues in finding good resources on the Internet. From the US Berkeley Library, this tutorial covers browsers, search strategies, evaluating websites, bibliographic templates, and much more. This site even offers PowerPoint presentations and handouts you could use in your classroom to give your students tips on sound search techniques and tools, all new as of June, 2003.

Put together by technology teacher, Debbie Flanagan, Finding It Online is a good tutorial on web search engines and search strategies...ways to find not just information but information of use in your assignments, projects, and research.

A guide from the Basic Web Resource Site offering an overview of Video for the Web including digital cameras, video editing and file types.

Microsoft's Australia division has a great site called Do Amazing Things which offers a number of guides and tutorials including this one for Movie Maker 2. Video shooting and editing video, as well as adding sound, transitions, and effects to your finished movie.

An extensive guide to using Movie Maker 2 by user named PapaJohn.

A group called Windows Movie Makers also has very helpful guide walking you through all the steps from start to finish using Movie Maker 2.

MightCoach.com offers this free online guide to Movie Maker 2 which is quite comprehensive and easy to use.

Copyright Myths & Realities (Wake Forest University) -- a good overview

10 Big Myths About Copyright Explained (Brad Templeton) -- focussed on electronic transmission of information

Copyright Implementation Manual (Groton Public Schools) -- quite extensive including information about "fair use" and copyright specifics for music, multimedia, Internet, databases, in libraries, and computer software.

Copyright Chart (Hall Davidson) -- an educator and presenter at many conventions, Mr. Davidson assembed this chart to clearly lay out the provisions of the Digital Millenium Copyright Act. His downloads page includes a copyright "quiz" (and answers) that is a great help in putting copyright and the concept of "fair use" in the context of our classrooms.
