Lakeside History Department
 |
Members
of the history and social studies department at Lakeside School
are commitment to nurturing in their students an excitement about
the past, and an ability not only to comment but to act as an informed
citizen of our world. Ultimately, we teach history and social science
because these areas of knowledge are fundamental to an understanding
of oneself and the human species, and we wish to send students away
from Lakeside with some response, rooted in a study of the past,
to questions of human nature and our relationship to the world.
Along the way, we develop skills required of any student of history:
critical and creative thinking, the ability to read carefully and
evaluate source material, the ability to listen and develop ideas
collaboratively, and the ability to write succinctly and with insight.
