The Learning Resources Program provides a range of services on both campuses services designed to support student learning, academic growth and success. Available to all students, services are not mandated and Lakeside does not provide an ongoing special education program.   Services may include

Services
Study skills classes can help students study and learn more efficiently and effectively.
  • At the Middle School, study skills are integrated in the curriculum. For example, 8th grade students work on annotating text extensively in English. Study skills workshops are offered periodically based on current needs of students such as: note taking, problem solving, structuring long term projects, time management, organization.
  • At the Upper School, study skills workshops focused on specific topics such as note taking, PSAT and SAT preparation are offered periodically.

Upper School Study Center                                                                                      Bliss 13
  • Designed to provide students with structured and interactive academic support. 
  • Students visit the Study Center on a drop-in basis or as assigned by their adviser or teacher during their free periods
  • Teachers, learning resources faculty and peer tutors are available to work on specific subjects and/or general study skills. Availability of help in specific subjects is based on the staff available during a particular period.

Middle School After School Study Hall                                                                                       MS Library
  • Designed to provide students with structured and interactive academic support.
  • Students may visit the MS After School Study Hall on a drop-in or regular basis. 
  • Students meet during the first half hour with teachers, (except on faculty meeting days).  Learning resources faculty and peer tutors (on a limited basis) are available for the full 1½ hours of study hall.
  • On Fridays the Study Hall will function as a traditional silent study hall from 3:30-5:00, although students can make individual arrangments to meet with their teachers 
  • Help is available in specific subjects and/or general study skills.

  •  Peer tutoring: Help from a fellow student in a specific subject is available at the Upper School and on a limited basis via the After School Study Hall at the Middle School.
  • Contracted professional tutoring: Learning resources coordinators maintain lists of available independent tutors. Referrals are available upon family request. The family contracts directly with the tutor of its choice and is responsible for arranging payment, contract options and maintaining all communication with the tutor. (Lakeside provides referrals only and does not administer or supervise arrangements with contracted tutors.

    Families currently receiving financial aid may be eligible to receive assistance with tutoring costs that result from a recommendation from the student support services team. Financial arrangements are made with Kristi Kallander in the Financial Aid Office (206 440 2773).
     

Services for Students with Documented Disabilities                                              MS: Room 200  US: Bliss 13
  • If your student has a documented learning disability or health impairment that may require accommodations to facilitate his or her academic success, contact the learning resources coordinator at the appropriate division (see first paragraph.) 
  • Copies of Lakeside guidelines pertaining to the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) are available upon request from the office of each division.
  • Please remember that the Educational Testing Service, the ACT Universal Testing Service and other national testing agencies have strict criteria regarding access to accommodations on national tests. Typically this involves a formal evaluation and firmly established history of disability and accommodations on file with our office. If your son or daughter has a documented health impairment or learning disability that may require such accommodation in the future, please contact Learning Resources as early as possible.
