Position on Teaching Evolution

The Lakeside Science Department concludes that the theory of evolution is the only scientific explanation for the

existence and maintenance of biological diversity, and that alternative explanations such as creationism and intelligent design do not qualify as competing scientific ideas. As such, creationism and intelligent design will not be taught in science classrooms at Lakeside School. Moreover, it is our belief that the theory of evolution is the unifying theory in biology, and the theory of evolution will be explored extensively in our biology classes and used as an explanatory system throughout the biology curriculum.
