Basic Research Strategies
The University of Washington has put together an easy-to-follow interactive tutorial on basic research skills called Research 101. The tutorial has six units, covering topics such as identifying a good research topic, understanding the differences between academic and popular sources and primary and secondary sources, creating effective keywords, finding information in a variety of ways, and evaluating sources. Each topic takes about 15 minutes to complete. While some examples point to UW library resources, the content of the tutorial is applicable to all high school and college researchers.
