Established in a sleepy section of north Seattle over a century ago, Lakeside School is now centered in a busy residential neighborhood that is growing along with the city and region.
Lakesiders and neighbors of Lakeside, please check this page for updates on construction and other news that impacts our campus and the surrounding area.
Construction and Neighborhood News
Construction on 145th Street
Updated Jan. 6, 2025: The City of Shoreline is currently engaged in improvements along 145th Street (which borders the north end of our Upper School campus). This affects travel to and from Lakeside. Starting Jan. 7, 2025, crews will reopen a single lane of N 145th Street in each direction between Corliss Avenue and I-5. The roadway will remain reduced to a single lane in each direction until the completion of the project. Temporary signals will control traffic at the overpass until permanent roundabouts are constructed in 2025.
This area remains an active work zone. For everyone's safety, please reduce your speed while driving through the area. Pay attention to the construction signs and barrels as the configuration of the road will change over the next year. The pedestrian and bicycle pathway connects 1st Avenue NE to the east side of the overpass. This path also may shift slightly with construction activities. Please note that Exxel Pacific continues to construct a housing development along 145th Street. Flaggers may alternate traffic on 1st Avenue NE as part of this work.
When complete, the project will improve safety, traffic congestion, and multimodal access along the 145th St. corridor and help connect Lakeside’s campus to the new light rail station. Read more about the projects on the City of Shoreline webpage and see a map of the affected area.
Construction at the Upper School
In fall 2026, Lakeside Upper School will have a new two-story academic building located on the field that is on the southwest corner of campus, next to Allen-Gates Hall. It will feature high-quality learning spaces, worthy of the excellence of our students and faculty; 12 English and humanities classrooms and eight biology, physics, and chemistry/advanced science labs; a wide variety of community spaces for collaboration and fun; and outdoor spaces for learning and community-building that will knit the building into the Upper School campus.
Site preparation began in summer 2024. We anticipate opening the doors to classrooms at the start of the 2026-2027 school year!
