Lakeside XC opened their season with a promising start at the Bellarmine 2 Mile Invitational. 16 Lakesiders completed the course, including 9 racing for Lakeside HS XC for the first time.

Lakeside XC competed in their first 5k race at Lower Woodland Park on Friday, Sept 15th. 19 runners completed a high school XC 5k course for the first time.

Lakeside Boys took 2nd in the Quad Meet against Eastside Catholic, Roosevelt, and Nathan Hale. Lakeside Girls took 3rd.

Amy C debuted in the 5k with a 2nd place finish in the Girls race and a time of 20:36. Drew K (17:11), Rory B (17:33), and Charlie V (17:36) rounded out the top 5 in the Boys race with 3rd, 4th, and 5th place finishes, respectively.

Amy C notched her first career XC 5k victory and sub-20 time (19:49) leading the Lakeside Girls XC team to a second place finish in their quad meet against Seattle Prep, Ingraham, and Franklin on Wednesday afternoon at Magnuson Park. Elizabeth W, Chloe M, Elsa A, and Ashley Z rounded out the Lions' Top 5 with a quartet of PRs and 13th-16th place finishes.

The Boys XC team also secured 2nd place in the quad meet and was led by Drew K, who notched a personal best in the 5k (16:31) and a 4th place individual finish. Charlie V, Rory B, and Ulee K all dipped under 18 minutes in the race, with 8th, 14th and 17th place finishes, respectively.

The Lakeside Boys XC team, needing at least an 8th place team finish to keep their season alive, delivered with an inspired race and a 5th place team finish in the 15 team field at Lower Woodland Park. Drew K led the way for the Lions with a 14th place individual finish and Ulee K, Rory B, and Charlie V delivered their strongest races of the season with 32nd-34th places. Josh P rounded out the scoring for the Lions with a 48th place finish and his first sub-18 mark of the year. Matthew B and Ethan B will also move on to the District meet for the Lions

In the Girls race, Amy C continued her run of fast races with a 12th place finish and lifetime PR of 19:47 on the challenging course. Anni Y also delivered a blistering time & PR on her way to a 71st place finish. Elizabeth W, Elsa A, and Chloe M rounded out the scoring for the Lions with strong last races of the season.

The Lakeside Boys and Amy C will next compete at the District Championships at Marymoor Park on Thursday, Oct 26th. The top 5 teams and top 35 individuals in each race will qualify for the following week's State Championships.

Amy C, Drew K, Rory B, and Ulee K qualified for the State XC Championships on Thursday at Marymoor Park with a quartet of personal best performances.

Amy C sliced nearly a minute off her best time of the year on her way to a 9th place finish, clocking a time of 18:49.

The Boys team finished 6th overall, missing qualifying as a team for State by a single place. The 6th place finish was the Lions best team finish at a District meet since 2018. Drew K led the way with a 20th place finish. Rory B and Ulee K finished 28th and 29th securing State qualifying places. Charlie V, Josh P, Matthew B, and Ethan B finished 46th, 63rd, 80th, and 94th, respectively.

The Lions are next in action next Saturday at the State Championship meet in Pasco.
