Upper School science: A responsibility to the world around us
Science classes at Lakeside are focused on real-world experiences that allow students to learn in different ways. When the COVID-19 pandemic upended teachers’ plans for the 2020-2021 school year, two Upper School science teachers re-imagined their curricula and created a joint project in which students studying ecology and engineering provided critical nesting habitat to vulnerable bird species in the Puget Sound region. The project represents the best of Lakeside’s approach to teaching and learning: a hands-on/experiential collaboration that nurtures essential competencies and mindsets while providing service to the larger community.
