Fisher hired as girls basketball program head, head varsity girls coach

On May 11, Director of Athletics Chris Hartley announced the hiring of Mia Fisher as Lakeside’s next Girls Basketball Program Head and Head Varsity Girls Coach.

Fisher, an assistant coach with the varsity team during the 2017-2018 season, replaces Sandy Schneider as the head of the girls basketball program.

A California native, Fisher played basketball for the University of California, Santa Barbara Gauchos from 2001 to 2005 before playing professionally in Belgium, France, Turkey, and Bosnia.

After her professional career ended, she began work for Stanford University’s women’s basketball program, followed by stints at San Jose State and her alma mater, UC Santa Barbara. Fisher joined Schneider’s staff for the 2017-2018 season.

Feedback from those who interviewed Coach Fisher was positive. One parent described Fisher as “direct, articulate, and incredibly knowledgeable. Her vision and the core values of growth, leadership, and basketball knowledge align with Lakeside's mission statement. It was clear that she had given tremendous thought to how she would build the entire program from middle school through varsity.”

A current varsity player wrote, “Her experience with the team has also helped her to build good relationships with everybody which I think would be instrumental in our team's dynamic.”

Fisher’s first official duty will be to oversee Lakeside’s Summer Programs girls basketball camp.

Please join Lakeside in welcoming Mia Fisher as Lakeside’s Girls Basketball Program Head!
