Lakeside's Middle and Upper School choir students will participate in the fourth annual Sing Fest, a festival co-hosted by Lakeside School and The Overlake School. Upper School choir students from Lakeside, The Overlake School, and Eastside Prep will spend Monday, March 18 working on vocal technique, advanced repertoire, and musical expression in rehearsals with guest conductor Leann Conley-Holcom, director of vocal and choral activities at Seattle University. Middle School students from Lakeside and The Overlake School will join Conley-Holcom in the afternoon for similar work and rehearsal of repertoire.
All singers -- approximately 160 in total -- will combine for a free concert on Monday, March 18 at 7 p.m. in St. Nicholas Auditorium on the Upper School campus. All are welcome.
"The most powerful aspect of choral singing is the sense of community that comes from singing with others. It is always astonishing to our students just how quickly strangers become friends during experiences like this," says Shekela Wanyama, director of choirs at Lakeside. "For many of our students, Sing Fest is their favorite choir activity. And for our youngest students in 6th-grade choir, it is an exciting rite of passage and a 'welcome' into the Lakeside choir family."
