Schulte named girls crew program head, head varsity coach

On Friday, May 25, Director of Athletics Chris Hartley introduced Briana Schulte as the Girls Crew Program Head and Head Girls Varsity Coach.

Schulte brings a wealth of experiences from the world of rowing as both an athlete and a coach. After picking up rowing as a graduate student at Northwestern University, she would go on to row for the USRowing Development Camp, the Vesper Boat Club in Philadelphia, PA, and Seattle’s own Pocock Elite Sculling Team.

Her coaching career began with Northwestern University’s women’s rowing program, before moving on to  Washington College, Purdue University, and the University of Pennsylvania. Since 2011, Schulte has been coaching at Pocock Rowing Center, where she was also the Director of Rowing Operations.

One of the interviewers had this to say about Briana after speaking with her: “Briana has the vision to build a stronger team by helping every individual student-athlete on the team set their goals and reach their full potential. From her experience, I believe in her strategy to build a stronger and more competitive team. Briana has also demonstrated she has the ‘all-in’ dedication and commitment to build a trusting relationship with each athlete and parent/guardian. Her years of experiences as rowing coach in variety of teams proves her matching qualities to this role.”

Briana and Boys Crew Program Head Jeff Iqbal will begin their work together to make sure that, program-wide, the Lakeside boathouse runs well and that all of the rowers are prepared, supported, and have the best opportunity to grow and flourish.

Please join us in welcoming Briana Schulte to the Lakeside community!
