by Eleanor Hill, admissions and financial aid coordinator

Happy September!

We’re preparing for the 2023-2024 admissions season and with so much to keep track of application materials, events, deadlines  our mission is to make the application process straightforward and seamless.

This month’s newsletter will cover how to get started with your online application and provide some helpful tips for using the system.

Lakeside uses the online application management system, Ravenna, to streamline the entire application process. All of the steps, deadlines, forms, and event registrations are available in one location for your convenience.

How to create an account in Ravenna and check your status

The first step is to create or log in to your Ravenna account and select Lakeside School from the school directory. Once you click the “apply” button, the application will appear and you can begin reviewing the required steps, submitting materials, and registering for events. Information regarding each step's requirements, including due dates and relevant forms, can be found within their section.

A checklist of required steps in the Ravenna admissions system

The checklist pictured here is a great resource for checking the status of your application as you submit materials. Keep in mind that our team individually reviews every document submitted, so please allow time for this process. The gray clock indicates that we have received your submitted document, and the green checkmark indicates it has been accepted and the application step has been marked complete.

We will notify you within your account, along with a brief explanation, if a document does not meet requirements.

Helpful Tips for Ravenna:

  • Submit the preliminary application form and fee first.
  • Between Sept. 1 and Jan. 12, you are able to view the prompts, write, and edit the PSIS family-controlled forms before submitting them. Once submitted, you will not be able to edit these forms.
  • Follow the prompts and word limits indicated.
  • We will mark delegated forms (teacher evaluations, personal reference form, PSIS school administrator form, records request) complete once we have received them.

Admissions Events

We have designed our admissions events, including campus tours, open houses, and webinars, to help you and your family get to know Lakeside as you navigate the admissions process. Each event this season will feature an opportunity to meet students, faculty, staff, and coaches, see our beautiful campus, and more! Admissions events are optional, and we encourage families to participate in the events that will be most helpful to them.

Tours:

  • Families are limited to one campus tour for the 2023-2024 admission season. Please be mindful when registering for a campus tour. Ensure the date and time you select work for your schedule and family. If you register for a second timeslot, we will unregister you from your previously scheduled tour time.
  • We have limited space available for our tours and strive to give as many applying families a chance to see our campus as possible. If you are unable to attend your scheduled tour time, please unregister in Ravenna or contact us at least 24 hours in advance.

Middle School Admissions Activities/Upper School Interviews:

  • All applicants are required to schedule either a Middle School Admissions Activity (grades 5-8) or an Upper School Interview (grades 9-12)
  • Applicants are limited to registering for one interview or admissions activity timeslot at a time. Once again, please be mindful when registering for your interview or admissions activity timeslot and ensure that the date and time you select work for your schedule and applicant. We will withdraw you from your previously registered timeslot if you reserve another timeslot.

Helpful Tips:

  • We send confirmation and reminder emails for each registered event. They will contain more details, including directions to campus if the event is in-person or the Zoom link if the event is virtual. Be sure to check your junk or spam folder for these emails!
  • Unless otherwise noted, registration for admissions events opens on October 1, 2022 in Ravenna. To register, log in to your Ravenna account and select your student’s Lakeside application. Towards the bottom of the page, you’ll find the step “Optional Middle/Upper School Events” and a link. This link will take you to a separate page that lists all of the optional admissions events, tours, and webinars hosted by Lakeside for the 2023-2024 admission season. Once you select an event, you will be prompted to specify who, along with your applicant, will be attending the event.
  • If you are registered for a virtual Upper School Interview, you will receive an email containing the Zoom link one business day prior to your scheduled meeting. Please be sure to check your junk or spam folder for this email! If you do not receive the link, please reach out to our office.

We understand the independent school application process can seem daunting at first, and our goal is to support you along the way. We’ve laid out Ravenna and our website to clearly outline the application process, and we encourage you to use these resources throughout the admission season. Thank you for considering Lakeside for your family. If you have any questions or concerns, or you need assistance with your application, our team is here to help! We look forward to getting to know you and your student this admission season!
