South African student Hulisani visited Lakeside for two weeks this January, as an outgrowth of a trip that several Lakeside faculty members made to South Africa in summer 2017 (you can read more about that trip in this article about our partnership with Ridgeway College). Here, Huli shares some highlights from her experience at Lakeside.
My two weeks at Lakeside School were one of the most exciting adventures of my life. During my visit I not only observed but participated in class discussions and got to share my opinion and perspective on different aspects of life. The activities I most enjoyed at Lakeside were working with all the choirs, but most especially watching the middle school orchestra (they are the cutest human beings alive), making my first mug in ceramics (although it probably leaks), and watching my first basketball game.
Lakeside has given me the opportunity to not only share my passion, but to make new friends, uncover my full potential, and help me realize that there are opportunities that come if you never give up on what you love. The cultures I've learnt and people I've met will always be with me.
Thank you all for the warm welcome and I do hope this is not the last time we meet. Although it is always sad to leave, you will all always remain a part of my life.
