An Independent School • Grades 5-12

By Doug Moon, assistant director of admissions and financial aid, and Lilli Forgette, admissions visit manager

Lakeside’s virtual admissions season is in full swing, and we are pleased to offer several opportunities to virtually visit and learn more about our Middle and Upper school programs. Below are details about required and optional events on both campuses. You can also visit us online to explore the many ways to get to know the Lakeside community! As always, do not hesitate to contact our office at admissions@lakesideschool.org if you have any questions.

Middle School virtual admissions events

We are two month into a unique academic year and two weeks into Middle School admissions events. For me (Doug), this is the time of year when the rhythm of admissions starts to set it. My hope is that you and your family have found a cadence with school, work, and other life events, including selecting a school for your rising 5th-8th grade student. This fall and winter, our office is excited to share virtual admissions events with prospective families interested in applying for the 2021-22 school year.

Admissions activity (required)

These student-only virtual gatherings are held once a week from 4-4:45 p.m., ending in early February 2021. Dates are released on a rolling basis. This activity is the only required (students must attend) admissions event during the Middle School application process. Once you have submitted the preliminary application and paid the application fee via Ravenna, you will then have the option to register for the event and find dates and times for upcoming activities. We encourage applicants to complete this step as early as possible.

Following is the schedule for this weekly event.

  • 3:55 - 4:05 p.m. — Applicants log in to Zoom
  • 4:05 - 4:15 p.m. — Welcome, introductions, and icebreaker
  • 4:15 pm - 4:35 p.m. — Activity
  • 4:35 - 4:45 p.m. — Debrief and Q&A
  • 4:45 p.m. — Event ends

Applicants are not asked to prepare anything for the event and only need to bring an open mind and positive attitude!

Campus tour (optional)

From the comfort of your home, gather the family around a device, log in to Zoom, and enjoy a 60-minute interactive presentation from a member of the admissions team. The event is designed to give a general overview of the Middle School. You will have the opportunity to ask questions, see our classrooms, arts, and athletics facilities, and learn more about the Lakeside student experience. Tours are offered at various times (check Ravenna for specific dates and times) most Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays ending on Jan. 7, 2021. We ask that families register for and attend only one tour per admissions season.

Please note: If you attended a campus tour during the 2019-20 school year and would like to attend this year, we ask that you wait to tour until December 2020 or January 2021. This will allow newly interested families the opportunity and availability to virtually visit campus.

Upper School interviews and tours

Student interview (required)

A required piece of Lakeside’s application is the Upper School student interview. The Upper School interview is a relaxed, one-on-one conversation with a faculty or staff member held via Zoom. There are no set questions, nor anything students need to bring or prepare. Our goal is to get to know the applicant beyond what is included in the application. Topics discussed are based on students’ interests and have included: black holes; favorite books or school projects; babysitting; bird watching; playing video games; sports wins and losses; baking cupcakes; community service, and more. There will also be an opportunity for applicants to ask any questions they may have about Lakeside School. Our Upper School interviews are typically 20-30 minutes in length and are offered throughout the week – we have morning and afternoon time slots, October through January. Registration is required in Ravenna (once a family has submitted the preliminary application and $25 application fee) and we encourage applicants to complete this step as early as possible.

Campus tour (optional)

A great way to learn more about the Upper School is to come on a virtual tour! Our student-led, small group tours last approximately 45-60 minutes and are designed to give your family a general overview of the Upper School. You will have the opportunity to ask questions, see our classrooms, arts, and athletics facilities, and learn more about the Lakeside Upper School student experience. An admissions representative will be your host while student tour guides ‘walk’ you through our interactive campus map. We close with plenty of time for a Q&A, so please bring your questions! Upper School tours are offered, via Zoom, through early January – see available dates and times and register in Ravenna. While tour attendance is completely optional, we’d love to share Lakeside with you!

Please note: Tours are limited to prospective students and their parents/guardians.
