Hi Freshman Max!
Here’s a few things I want you to know:
The first thing is that YOU WILL GET TALLER. There’s literally zero reason to keep fretting about your height because there is nothing you can do about it!!
Say yes to (almost) everything. If you say “yes” every time you get asked to hang out, go to a club, or a tryout, you will eventually find your best friend, your new community, and your new favorite sport.
Spend time with people who appreciate the real you. Stop trying to fit in somewhere you aren’t meant to be. Spend all of that effort on friendships with people that want to know you for you.
Be yourself. I know that you have been told about a million times, and I also know you’ve ignored the advice a million times too, but please please please trust me on this one. If you are yourself, you will be so much happier. I wasted so much of my time in high school trying to be someone I wasn’t, and if you can be yourself now you will have an amazing high school experience for not just the last two years, but for all four.
The last thing I want to tell you is that no one, and I mean literally no one, is thinking about all of the embarrassing things you did in middle school. That time you laughed so hard milk shot out of your nose? No one remembers it. When you got inside your ultimate shorts and rolled around the field? It hasn’t crossed anyone’s mind since the day it happened. How you forgot the words to “Keep Your Head Up” while alone on stage during the talent show? Well I sure hope no one remembers that!
You have a clean slate in high school, take advantage of that and be whoever you want to be. Trust me, you’ll be glad you did.
