An Independent School • Grades 5-12

by Emily Aktepy, assistant director of admissions, and Margaret Marks, assistant director of admissions

It’s that time of year: Winter break is around the corner and the Lakeside application deadline is approaching on Jan. 16, 2020.

As the deadline approaches and you focus on completing the application, we want to eliminate unnecessary stress. Here, we outline the application requirements that need to be received by the Jan. 16 application deadline, and the requirements that can be received and completed after Jan. 16.

Items we need before or on Jan. 16, 2020:

By the application deadline (Jan. 16), we must have received all family-controlled items:

  • Preliminary application and fee.
  • PSIS student short answers.
  • PSIS student essay.
  • PSIS student interests and activities form.
  • PSIS parent/guardian statement.

Items we want as close as possible to Jan. 16, 2020:

Please delegate applicable forms, references, and evaluations well before Jan. 16, so that the person responsible has time to turn them in before the end of January:

  • Interview (please sign up for an interview ASAP so you can complete this requirement by the end of January).
  • Two teacher evaluations.
  • PSIS school administrator form.
  • One personal reference.
  • Grades/transcripts.
  • Secondary Schools Admissions Test (SSAT) and The Character Skills Snapshot results.
    • Find SSAT testing locations and availability at
      • For a guaranteed on-time decision, the last SSAT date for Upper School applicants is Jan. 4, 2020 and for Middle School applicants it is Feb. 8, 2020.
    • The Snapshot is required for applicants to grades 6-12; take The Snapshot online prior to Jan. 16, 2020; results will be received two weeks from completion. Learn more about the process to register for the Snapshot at

As a rule of thumb: Items within your control are due no later than the deadline; items outside your control (that require completion of a third party) can arrive to us after Jan. 16, 2020.
