The Lakeside drama program invites you to the New Works Festival on Thursday, Dec. 10, from 6-7:30 p.m., featuring pieces from Drama 8 and Drama IV. Come early to the virtual lobby, opening at 5:45. The festival's staged reading format will allow the actors and audience to focus on the authors’ creations and highlight student storytelling skills.

From 6-6:45 p.m., 8th grade drama students will present original works on topics including an ill-fated aquatic business plan, a Facebook marketplace exchange gone horribly wrong, and a ghost who needs a favor. This fall, Drama 8 has explored playwrighting concepts like character creation, story arcs, dialogue with guest playwright K. Brian Neel, and the scenes are a culmination of their work.

Seniors in Drama IV will then share excerpts of original short plays, written during this year’s playwriting unit. The plays explore identity and purpose, and are full of twists and turns. While only an excerpt of each play will be shared during this performance, they will surely spark discussion and leave the audience looking forward to fully mounted productions later this year as part of Circus!

Zoom links to the events were emailed to students and parents and guardians on Monday, Dec. 7. Alumni can access the links in the alumni Facebook group and the events section on Lion Link.
