An Independent School • Grades 5-12

The news about the most recent omicron variant has been changing by the day, which has caused us to adjust our original plans for returning from the winter break. Please read the following information carefully as it will pertain to the reopening of school, testing, and updated CDC guidance when we are back in session next week. In order to keep everyone safe and to keep school open, everyone must do their part so we can continue in-person learning throughout the year.

  1. PCR Testing on Sunday, Jan. 2 and Monday, Jan. 3, 2022. Lakeside will require that all students, faculty, and staff who work with students to be PCR tested either Sunday, Jan. 2 or Monday, Jan. 3 between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. on their respective campus. Nurses will be available in Red Square at the Upper School and at the front entrance of the Middle School for drive-through testing. Student and faculty/staff labels will be at their respective division locations, and no appointment will be required.

  2. Lakeside will engage in remote learning on Monday, Jan. 3 and Tuesday, Jan. 4 in order to await the results from the on campus PCR testing. If a student is not able to get tested over those two days, they must submit a negative PCR test before they can return to classes in person on Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2022. Testing results should come in Tuesday evening. If an individual is positive, the school will reach out directly to the affected family with instructions for isolation and next steps.

  3. Additional PCR testing on Thursday, Jan. 6. As originally planned, we will have our weekly PCR testing on Thursday, Jan. 6 for all unvaccinated students, the rolling list of vaccinated students, and any community member who would like to be tested again.  This round of testing will be in addition to the Jan. 2 and Jan. 3 testing, and is not meant to replace those testing dates. It is one more layer of safety as we remain dedicated to being proactive in identifying positive cases in the community in order to prevent spread on campus.

  4. Athletics will continue while Lakeside is in remote learning, and practices will continue as scheduled. Athletes will PCR test either Sunday, Jan. 2 or Monday, Jan. 3 and will be antigen-tested on Monday before their practice. Families with student-athletes in season will receive more information from Chris Hartley shortly. We will continue to run our sports program as long as we have antigen tests in supply. At the moment, we are waiting on more tests to arrive from the state the week of Jan. 3. Our ability to continue will also depend on guidance from CYO, Metro League, and the WIAA as they determine what is feasible and how other schools are able to handle the omicron variant.

  5. Reporting Positive Cases and Shortened Isolation Period. On Monday, Dec. 27, the CDC amended the isolation period for infected individuals from 10 days to 5 days. If your student tests positive for the virus and has symptoms, the first day of isolation begins when symptoms first appear. If an individual is asymptomatic and tests positive, the isolation period begins as soon as you get the test results. You can find out more information about CDC guidance here. Please read this information carefully if you or your student has been exposed to someone who is infected or if they have tested positive themselves. As a reminder, please report all positive cases to healthandsafety@lakesideschool.org for our tracking purposes.

  6. Upload Vaccination Record to Magnus, including booster shots for those who are eligible. For all Lakeside families, the deadline for uploading your student’s vaccination record is Monday, Jan. 3. As of today, Dec. 29, there are 48 students who do not have any COVID vaccine records uploaded on Magnus. You can find instructions for how to upload records on our health and safety page on the right hand side under “Family Checklist.” We have also added another date for booster shots if your student has already received one. Thanks for your cooperation in making this a priority.
