by Bryan Smith, COVID-19 health and safety officer
As we approach the Thanksgiving break, I wanted to remind all our families about Lakeside’s health and safety protocol for travel. As a reminder, Lakeside follows guidance from the CDC and WA Department of Health that you can find on our health and safety webpage. If your student is fully vaccinated, they do not need to quarantine after travel but should plan on being tested three to five days upon return and monitor for symptoms. If a student is unvaccinated, they must quarantine for seven days with proof of a negative test or 10 days without a negative test result. To be considered fully vaccinated, an individual must be 14 days past their final dose of the vaccine to travel without the requirement to quarantine upon return.
Now that the Pfizer vaccine has been approved for students ages 5-11, our community is moving one step closer to ensuring our campus is safe for everyone. If your student is eligible for the vaccine, please make an appointment as soon as possible. You can find important vaccine information on our health and safety webpage with helpful links to locate appointments throughout the city and near your home. Unless your student has been approved for a religious or medical exemption, all eligible students should be fully vaccinated by Monday, Jan. 3, 2022. Winter break is fast approaching, and our health and safety protocols will remain in effect regarding family travel for all breaks throughout the remainder of the year. If your student is unvaccinated and your family travels over the breaks, they will need to continue to quarantine after they return.
Lakeside will continue to offer PCR testing this week on Thursday, Nov. 18 and after Thanksgiving break on Thursday, Dec. 2, but not the week of Nov. 22 during the shortened week. As always, testing is open to everyone on any given week but only required for those who are unvaccinated or those vaccinated individuals who were selected to test on a rolling basis.
We hope that your family has a restful break filled with family memories and time to recharge after a busy fall. If you have any further questions about our health and safety policies, please feel free to reach out to me directly.
