Lakesiders are being recognized this spring for their commitment to the athletics program and Lakeside community. Traditionally lauded each May at the Upper School Lakeside Versus assembly, honorees are being celebrated in new ways this spring.
Lakeside Athletics senior week occurred the week of May 18-22. All senior athletes were recognized on Lakeside Athletics social media feeds with a photograph and a message in honor of their commitment to their teams from their coaches. Find a full list of feeds on the athletics webpage. Throughout the week, the scoreboard on Parson field showed 20:20 for the clock and 20-20 for the score. Director of Athletics Chris Hartley and athletics staff also shared a video message for spring athletes, and debuted a new banner on Parsons – you can see it if you drive by or on social media.
Six Lakeside seniors have been named Metro League 101 Scholar-Athletes: Jack D., Grace H., Charlie H., Jake J., Laurel O., and Nathalie V. Students were nominated by their coaches for their outstanding leadership, unwavering good judgment as role models, their service to our community, and their strong performance in the classroom.
Of these student athletes, Director of Athletics Chris Hartley said, “You have made your teams better because of your willingness to be generous and caring teammates. You have inspired your peers with your dedicated efforts in and out of season. And, you have lived the mission of the school, without fail.”
Kivonne Tucker, Middle and Upper school physical education teacher, was awarded the Harry Swetnam Award, which is given each year to the Lakeside parent or friend who perpetuates the spirit and camaraderie that were so important to the man for whom this award is named. In bestowing the award, Hartley said Tucker’s “impact on our community has been remarkable and long lasting.” Hartley thanked Tucker “for serving this school and the athletics department so well. … For sharing your core values, for upholding Lakeside’s core values, and for putting your students and athletes at the top of your priority list.”
Metro League 101 Scholar-Athletes and Tucker will be recognized on Lakeside Athletic feeds the week of May 25-29.
