Dear parents and guardians of Lakeside students,
I hope you are all having a great November and that you and your students are thriving! Last weekend I sat on a bench at Green Lake for a while and just watched the leaves fall off the trees. I recommend it to all of you!
As you know, we are in the process of re-envisioning the entire educational program of Lakeside and we have made significant progress over the past 18 months. We have discerned the competencies and mindsets we believe students will need to make good decisions in their personal and professional lives now, next year, and in the world of 2050. You can read more about the educational philosophy behind competencies and mindsets in this article.
We want to know what you think! Please watch the three videos on the re-envisioning webpage where I explain why we are re-envisioning and share what we believe we need to teach our students going forward. Our educational program will be structured around teaching students competencies, mindsets, and content. It’s the mission of the school, operationalized.
If you are sending your child to Lakeside, you will want to understand how we define a mindset and a competency, and, in particular, which ones we think are important and why. At the end of this feedback cycle, the list of competencies and mindsets will be set, forming the basis for other decisions, including about the academic year calendar and the daily schedule.
Please take 16 minutes to watch all three videos, then review the full list of competencies and mindsets and send along any comments you think important. See the re-envisioning webpage for how to submit feedback and please send it before Wednesday, Nov. 27.
It’s not Netflix but you can binge watch!
Thanks, everyone! And thank you to PGA President Joanna Black for volunteering to collect feedback!
